Casino Royale Redux

Arthur and I saw Casino Royale again. Damn, what a great movie. Still, I may have to downgrade it from a 10/10 to a 9/10. How perfect can a movie be if it takes two viewings to understand it?

Oh, sure, it’s not as Byzantine as Octopussy, but it takes a lot of work to figure out what’s going on and why. I may do some kind of diagram for a future edition of my book (if there is one).

Delightfully, when you know what’s going to happen, you can see little hints dropped throughout. Unlike, say, The World Is Not Enough, you can actually see little acting cues that there’s something going on behind the scenes.

By the way, if you’ve seen the movie I highly recommend this spoilerific and interesting discussion of the medical facts surrounding a particular scene in Casino Royale.

It is still playing first-run at the local theaters here. I have already seen it three times and am looking forward to its very near release on the pub-screens, where I can enjoy a nice IPA, a slice of pizza and a fourth viewing.

CR is the first Bond movie I have seen more than two times during its initial release, since Moonraker in 1979 and I STILL want to see it again.

    It is THAT good!

LeiterCIA saw it six times. Crazy guy. I’ve only seen it twice but I am heavy into pre-Oscar mode where I’m seeing all the prestige pics.

Speaking of which, check out “The Prestige”

I have seen CR only three times, but it is mere weeks away from the $3 theatres where they serve pizza and IPA’s.

  4. I disagree with that rating. I personaly think Craig is My favorite bon since Connery!!! 10/10 rating from me.
